Fear is Useless and Temporary
- I was reading a screenshot of a Tumblr thread when I saw the phrase “fear is useless and temporary” and my outlook on life has never been the same since. That being said, I hope it resonates with you the same way that it did with me because you shouldn’t shy away from a job due to the fact that you’re afraid of not getting it. Sometimes you just need to find your inner strength and remember that fear has no place in your life.
If You Can Survive the Interview, Then You Can Survive the Job
- Crushing an interview isn’t easy, but with practice and some great advice you’ll be able to dominate it in no time. Interviews involve setting a goal (getting the job) and planning a strategy (how to get the job). If you can do both those two things (which is no easy task) then you will definitely be able to work at whatever tech start-up or PR firm that you have your eyes on. Of course, you also need to have a stunning resume, but that’s for the next bullet point.
Creating a Resume is Half the Battle
- A resume determines whether or not you get an interview, and if you get an interview then there’s a strong chance you can get the job you are aiming for. However, not everyone knows how to create a resume that stands out, which is why it’s important to do your research before creating one. Actually, it wouldn’t hurt to create a few resumes and tailor them to whatever fields you are looking for (part-time, seasonal work, school jobs, internships, etc.). However, no matter what you end goal is for your resume, it’s important to sell yourself like your life depends on it (some people call this exaggeration, but I call it well-deserved embellishments).
The Worst They Can Do is Say No
- Rejection is just a fact of life, so there’s no point in hiding from it. I haven’t gotten every job that I applied for, but that doesn’t mean that I wasn’t qualified for them all. You’re going to hear the word “no” a thousand more times during your life, so you might as well get used to it and keep applying for the jobs you want, even if they seem out of reach, because eventually you are going to hear a “yes” that will make everything seem worth it.
If You Want the Job, Then the Only Thing Stopping You is Yourself
- If you do the work, and I do mean the work, then you can almost guarantee yourself any job that you have your eye on. Tailor your resume to what the company is looking for, send a follow-up message if you haven’t heard back within a week, thoroughly research the company, and create questions to ask during the interview. Advocate for your employment and be persistent, because if you’re stubborn enough then anything is possible.
