The Best Question to Ask During an Interview, According to TikTok
TikTok might be best known for its’ trendy dances and intriguing For You Page, but aside from being the main source of entertainment for many Gen-Zer’s, it is also houses a cornucopia of useful information for people of all ages. Everything from kitchen hacks to stand-up comedy recommendations can be found on the social media platform, and with access to all of that information a user is certain to find answers to all of the questions that they didn’t know they needed to ask.
Back in February of 2021, a user by the name of dantechtok, aka Dan Vasudevan, posted a video with a thumbnail that read “Best question to ask during interview to get u a job”. Since Vasudevan posted that video, it has been viewed 3.1 million times, it has been liked over 417.5 thousand times, and it has been shared by over 22.3 thousand users.
The query in question here is a simple, yet nerve-wracking, one. According to Vasudevan, the best question to ask at the end of an interview is “Based on what we’ve talked about today, do you have any hesitancies about hiring me?”. Scary, right?
However, putting your fear aside and asking this is a good idea because this question is a great way to argue on your behalf if a potential employer does have hesitancies about hiring you. If your interviewer doesn’t have any qualms about hiring you then your inquiry will only further to highlight how qualified for the position you are.
Now you might be thinking “Well just because this question was trending doesn’t mean it’s actually good!” and I’d say that’s a fair point since not everything that goes viral on TikTok is necessarily worth the hype (sorry, bucket hats). That being said, Vasudevan didn’t just come up with his question of out thin air. He actually found it in a YouTube video created by Cass Thompson, a woman known on the internet for her great career advice.
Thompson created the video way back in 2018 but it is still garnering views as more and more people, especially women, return to the workforce after the increased layoffs from last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Considering the fact that she has a whopping 77.7 thousand followers and the video itself has over 1.4 million views, I think it’s safe to say that her advice is okay to use.
Of course, Thompson’s advice cannot guarantee you a job, but it can certainly increase your chances of being hired by your dream company, so why not give it a shot? In any case it shouldn’t dissuade a potential employer from hiring you, so you’ve got nothing to lose by giving it a try! Maybe advice from TikTok isn’t too bad after all.
